DEFINITION OF CONFEDERALISM, FEATURES, MERITS AND DEMERITS

What is confederalism

Confederalism can be said to be as an administration belief system whereby politically free state with full power meets up to frame a union, for the sake of protecting a particulae point. It is likewise the arrangement of uniting sovereign states and hold the select

list which is implied for the government, to the part unit, I.e in a Confederal framework one state don't overwhelm, because of the way that they are each of the a sovereign state, so for this the elected or Central in this framework is rendered feeble.

In confederation, the part state hold sway, character, claim armed force, and the established appropriate to withdraw from the confederation. Cases of confederations are UNO, ECOWAS, EEU, IBRD and that's only the tip of the iceberg.

  FEATURES OF CONFEDERALISM

1. The constitional state have the right to secede : in confederalism, the only thing that binds everyone together is the common interest and the goal they are focusing, ones the goal is acquired states might desire to secede, secession though might happen during the course of achieving the goal, it might happen through any means.
Citizen are still to obey the constitional authority of their state government : this should not be confuse at all, staying under the banner of a particular international organization doesn't account that the citizens obey the organization rule, No!, the citizens are for all time the component unit they belong, not what the organization says they obey, that is why we said it earlier in the definition that the power resides between the components government which is traceable to each state government.

1. Flexible constitution : a constitution that is perfect for a confederation is flexible constitution I.e an easily amended constitution, every decision in that system will not be in favor of everyone, and before it will be enforce it must have the support of the 2-3 majority, because without that secession from the system will be much, it is a very simple system of changing constitution unlike federalism that only encourage rigid and a long procedure of amendment.
It is a union of sovereign state : when you say sovereign, it means that countries that are free from external control and has her own stabled system of government, so this sovereign states come together to form a political union which is for the achievement of a particular goal, united Nation organization is an example of a confederation that encompasses Nigeria, USA, France, China, France, Ghana and so on.
Political unstability : so far the system is this kind of bringing different state and cultures together, it is said to be fussy and there is always different perception in handling political activities in each state coming to form the union, with diverse of idea a political plan can never be successful, it will only end at the middle of a dagger point and render the break down of the organization.

  ADVANTAGES OF CONFEDERATION
1. It is a system that allows component state to retain their political right and not being control by the law that hold the confederation.
2. The use of the same foreign policy in a confederating state favors more the gradually developed state to have a say with a forceful voice which will have dignity of hearing compare to when its speaks alone.
3. Confederation contains a wider form of system and the way things are done in different state could be put together to form a generalization on the system that will be use in course of achieving organization goal.
So far more power is granted to the component unit it lures away the fear of domination by the less developed ones.
4. It is also a system of removing oneself from being lord by another bigger state through the means of secession.
DISADVANTAGES OF CONFEDERATION

1. The use of flexible constitution for a system that comprise sovereign states is a shortcoming in a Confederation.
Confederalism cannot go far beyond because it renders the central/federal weak and powerless
2. It can be practically said to be political unstable due to the diverse in idea, concept, constructs, perception, belief, convention and more.
The major or exclusive right is for the component unit and not federal, so it is said to be parochial.
3. Confederation will not guarantee a political unity but rather disentegrate or make people pick side, e.g Nigeria in UNO  might want to pick side with Britain in the course of Britain having issues with France.
